"Primordial Soup"
Enamel on steel-1060 x 700 mm
This is one of my practice pieces. I was investigating how to apply
mica metallic materials in combination with sprayed industrial enamels, using particularly silver and
gold metallics.
The composition of Primordial Soup shows components that were present, at least potentially,
when life was forming on earth. The gold bands down the side of the mural represent sunlight,
while the silver and black background are water and air. Large molecules, developed in the sea
and eventually combined to become the earliest forms of life, are shown here as brown irregular
and undefined shapes. Pointing the way to the future, the black, white and silver abstract images
are based on the structures which the evolving plants, fish, birds, and animals would eventually
take.
