Click for larger view  When I was asked to make a series of small nudes for an exhibition, I
decided to try to see if some of the high firing techniques that I
normally use on bowls could to create images. This was also a chance to
give up the rectangular format of larger two-dimensional work because I
was able to shape the edges of the small pieces of copper and offer the
finished pieces as free standing forms, rather than framed pictures.

My intention was to develop the nude images into something graphic and
abstract, but I found that these high-firing effects were most
successful when the figures were rendered realistically. Experiments in
design development failed, so I worked with nude figures that express
emotions I felt for real people.
