"Leaves in the Wind"

The design of this small mural is made using sprayed industrial enamel, but the colours are actually achieved with the use of tinted mica, the substance used to give a metallic effect in glazes. Blue, green, silver and gold metallic colours were sprayed over the basic leaf design, which had previously been applied with stencils and fired on the steel panels. The veins and edges of the leaves stood proud of the background and so became outlined by the gust of the mica colours collecting in the low areas.
